Podcasts Debunking the “Christmas is Pagan” Canard

I was recently on The 4th Watch Radio Show with Justen Faull discussing Christmas:

Christmas Closure: An Alternative View with special guest Cris D. Putnam

In this episode Justen and Cris compare popular pagan claims about Christmas, with corresponding contradictions in historical documentation. The adventure includes controversial alternative views, as well as answers the question “Should Christians divide over Christmas?”. Join us tonight for these and much more! This is one broadcast you won’t want to miss!

My friend Cliff Garner (PhD candidate in history) was on Beyond Extraordinary:

Beyond Extraordinary Ep. 32: Debunking the “Pagan Christmas” Myth with Cliff Garner

Is it wrong for a Christian to celebrate Christmas?  Are our Christmas traditions mired in pagan symbolism?  Is Christmas a day that once belonged to an assortment of sun gods?  Can a Christian celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ on December 25th in spirit and truth?  Should we?  Where did these “Pagan Christmas” ideas come from?

These are the questions we’re taking on in this very important Christmas episode of Beyond Extraordinary.

And a Messianic Rabbi takes a stand for Christmas on the Iron Show:

IRON SHOW LIVE 51 – DEFENDING CHRISTMAS WITH RABBI MIKE

Rabbi Mike – aka Michael Bugg Defends and explains Christmas. Rabbi Mike shows us how even the WORD itself uses pagan themes.

Keep things simple and focused on CHRIST. xmas is not a command of GOD for Christians to participate in. If a Christian cannot lay xmas down, even for one year, it is an IDOL. We are not to worship idols. “Come out of ‘her’ MY people.”

There’s a pretty staggering promise if people don’t come out of her…

What about birthdays and wedding anniversaries? 4th of July? Bagels in the morning, fish on Friday, or a roast on Sunday? What if a holiday is enforced (say, Presidents day and you work in a bank)? If I don’t want to give up my anniversary vacation, is that an idol? Or is it just a human institution and little milestone that we as a species seem to need, and enjoy? Traditions and ‘rituals’ are the glue of society and identity in our individual cultures. I don’t intend to give up hotdogs, walks on the beach, or chocolate, either. I don’t idolize them- they happen to be what makes my mundane, human life follow a pattern.

Frankly, I’ve reached the point I don’t even care if its Christian or not. All the squealing vapors that its pagan vs. the histrionics if someone doesn’t behave proper and shout Merry Christmas! in my face when handing me my change at the check stand… has thrashed any give-a-hoot right outta me. I like decorating the house for this particular holiday. Its fun. I can worship Him every day- don’t need a calendar to give me permission or remind me to. Fin.

    Chris/Anybody,

Can someone explain the meaning of this to me:

Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.

I am from the year 1984. I have been indocrinated into the school of Satan (that is the western world and its morals).

IT is said God annoints those to be saved prior to their existence and that they only way you can go to Yeshua is if God so desires (or provides the ‘spark’).

IF that is true why do they encourage to spread the word? surely those predestined for Heaven will get there and those not, never will…

    Interesting times.
