Glen Beck’s Mormon Apologetics at Liberty University

As if cowtowing to Mormon bishop Mitt Romney during the last election wasn’t bad enough, Liberty University invited Glen Beck speak at its annual convocation ceremony.  Beck disingenuously said “I share your faith” calling Mormonism a “different denomination” of Christianity and referred to Joseph Smith as a “martyr” . These statements are far from the truth. Beck does not “share the faith” of  the Baptist student body. Mormonism is not a different denomination but a different religion. Islam is closer to Christian theology than polytheistic Mormonism. The canard that Mormonism is a Christian denomination is patently absurd. The god of Mormons is not the God of the Old and New Testaments but an exalted man. Joseph Smith was not a martyr for his faith. He was in jail for treason against the state of Illinois and destroying the printing press of a newspaper that criticized his polygamy. When an angry mob stormed the jail, Smith died in a shoot out in which he killed two men. The LDS website preserves the  eyewitness testimony of John Taylor:

“I shall never forget the deep feeling of sympathy and regard manifested in the countenance of Brother Joseph as he drew nigh to Hyrum, and, leaning over him, exclaimed, ‘Oh! my poor, dear brother Hyrum!’ He, however, instantly arose, and with a firm, quick step, and a determined expression of countenance, approached the door, and pulling the six-shooter left by Brother Wheelock from his pocket, opened the door slightly, and snapped the pistol six successive times. ….”  (two men were killed by Smith)

LDS.org

No one participating in a gun fight in which they kill some of their opponents is considered “martyred.” Why is Liberty allowing Glen Beck to mislead their students about Mormonism and the false prophet Smith? Liberty is treading the Gospel under foot for political expediency. Liberty University’s status as an evangelical University should be questioned by parents and students. Apparently, Liberty now prefers to be categorized as politically conservative but religiously pluralist institution.

But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ. For if someone comes and proclaims another Jesus than the one we proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or if you accept a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it readily enough.(2 Corinthians 11:3–4)

Maybe the baptist student body has another Head instead of Christ. I do not say this lightly..

The spirit of ecumenism will be the power to contend with the closer the Great Day of the Lord approaches.
The image of the Beast has many shapes and forms whereby the multitudes worship.

Key words: singularity, paradigm, ‘something new’ is ‘about to happen’. What I did not hear was REPENT! TURN FROM YOUR SINS! ALL HAVE FALLEN SHORT OF THE GLORY OF GOD!

He spun the ecumenical ‘christianity fused with singularity consciousness very well. Not too many tears, just enough that some might believe he is being sincere. After all, if I tell you how humble I am, surely you should take my word for it.

    Aggg think I may barf!

  3. Michael Sean says:

Another celebrity “Christian” refusing to stand up for the word of Christ. This is becoming something of a trend when you consider the “all paths lead to god” stance people like Oprah, who also proclaim to be Christian. Celebrity Christianity is more dangerous than New Atheism because it preaches to the converted.

The Mystery of iniquity worketh and apostasy increases

    • wisefool says:

I don’t think Oprah claims to be a Christian. She tried to start her own new age religion that seems to have failed. She is also a Black Liberation Theologist, the Reverend Jeremiah Wright crap. Same one Odumbo looks up to. They think all whites deserve to die. She doesn’t come out and say anything about it, she has a lot of money to lose by doing so. There is a reason she loves putting out movies about Black oppression from the past.

  4. Juridicus says:

We must remember that Christ warned that many will say Lord, Lord but he will know them not. As we move into a world which promotes the “many ways to God” the danger is that we fall into an idolatry of self and replace God’s Word with our own twisted conceptions. May we all take heed of the words of St. Paul about the dangers of false gospels.

  5. Teresa says:

interesting this, and also that Jerry Falwell was a Freemason, and their symbols are at the Univ.

  6. Catherine Crabill says:

I have lost ALL respect and trust of Glenn Beck and Liberty University.

  7. Glenn Beck says:

So why would a Christian University invite a Mormon to speak any how?? Just because he’s portrayed himself conservative on some issues. That’s the question! And if so why didn’t Glenn just stick to conservative issues instead of trying to assert that Mormonism is the same as Christianity. I think Liberty meant well but Glenn interjected his Mormonism into the speech..!! I have personally been to Liberty University campus and believe it is a good school. Bad decision to invite G.B to speak..!! Rand Paul would have been a better choice..!!

    • katy says:

Exactly! Glenn has been inserting the foundations of Mormonism into many of his speeches and radio show as of late. He was a key note speaker at a conservative event ( I can’t remember what org.) in the last few months and brought a slew of historic artifacts and documents from George Washington’s compass to Hitler’s napkin that was on him during an assassination attempt . He managed to bring up Joseph Smith and something he had from him. Putting Smith on the same historical par as Washington and Hitler is pretty low. He is attempting to MAIN STREAM Mormonism.

      • Julie Bucker says:

Morminism is mainstream. It has 15 million members. I am a Mormon. We are the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Joseph Smith did not do anything against the law. People hated him because he said things that were true. Finally, after being jailed for no reason at all a mob came up shooting through the door. I have never heard that Joseph shot any one but if he did it would have been in self defense. And why is it harder to believe that God is an exalted man? Do you look at your children and think they can never become like you? And we are God’s children in the spirit. We came to earth to receive bodies of flesh and bone to house our spirits. Stephen in the bible saw God and Jesus Christ standing next to Him. They both have exalted bodies. We will all be resurrected after we die, because Jesus died for us on the cross. We will get our bodies back and they will be perfect bodies that will never die. We can be sealed to our spouses and children for time and all eternity. We can have eternal families. God loves us. Jesus died for us to save us from spiritual death, and physical death.

I testify that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the fulness of the gospel on the earth. Please learn more at Mormon.org or LDS.org. And please, we aren’t out to hate or hurt. Sure we are not perfect and we can all learn from each other.

        • Brooks says:

Thanks for sharing Julie, just wondering if you could answer the following questions I have about LDS? Could not find anything that made any sense at LDS.org? Thanks.

          1. Why does the Mormon Church still teach that Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God after he made a false prophecy about a temple being built in Missouri in his generation (Doctrine and Covenants 84:1-5)?

          2. Since the time when Brigham Young taught that both the moon and the sun were inhabited by people, has the Mormon Church ever found scientific evidence of that to be true (Journal of Discourses, 1870, v.13, p.271)?

          3. Why did Brigham Young teach that Adam is “our Father and our God” when both the Bible and the Book of Mormon (Mormon 9:12) say that Adam is a creation of God (Journal of Discourses, Apr. 9, 1852, vol.1, p.50)?

          4. If Brigham Young was a true prophet, how come one of your later prophets overturned his declaration which stated that the black man could never hold the priesthood in the LDS Church until after the resurrection of all other races (Journal of Discourses, Dec. 12, 1854, 2:142-143)?

          5. Since the Bible’s test to determine whether someone is a true prophet of God is 100% accuracy in all his prophecies (Deuteronomy 18:20-22), has the LDS Church ever reconsidered its teaching that Joseph Smith and Brigham Young were true prophets?

          6. Since the current LDS prophets sometimes contradict the former ones, how do you decide which one is correct?

          7. Since there are several different contradictory accounts of Joseph Smith’s first vision, how did the LDS Church choose the correct one?

          8. Can you show me in the Bible the LDS teaching that we must all stand before Joseph Smith on the Day of Judgment?

          Mormon Scripture

          9. Can you show me archeological and historical proof from non-Mormon sources that prove that the peoples and places named in the Book of Mormon are true?

          10. If the words “familiar spirit” in Isaiah 29:4 refer to the Book of Mormon, why do familiar spirits always refer to occult practices such as channeling and necromancy everywhere else in the Old Testament?

          11. Why did Joseph Smith condone polygamy as an ordinance from God (Doctrine and Covenants 132) when the Book of Mormon had already condemned the practice (Jacob 1:15, 2:24)?

          12. Why were the words “white and delightsome” in 2 Nephi 30:6 changed to “pure and delightsome” right on the heels of the Civil Rights campaign for blacks?

          13. If God is an exalted man with a body of flesh and bones, why does Alma 18:26-28 and John 4:24 say that God is a spirit?

          14. Why did God encourage Abraham & Sarah to lie in Abraham 2:24? Isn’t lying a sin according to the 10 commandments? Why did God tell Abraham and Sarah to lie when 2 Nephi 9:34 condemns liars to hell?

          15. Why does the Book of Mormon state that Jesus was born in Jerusalem (Alma 7:10) when history and the Bible state that he was born outside of Jerusalem, in Bethlehem?

          16. If the Book of Mormon is the most correct of any book on earth, as Joseph Smith said, why does it contain over 4000 changes from the original 1830 edition?

          17. If the Book of Mormon contains the “fulness of the everlasting gospel”, why does the LDS Church need additional works?

          18. If the Book of Mormon contains the “fulness of the everlasting gospel”, why doesn’t it say anything about so many important teachings such as eternal progression, celestial marriage, the Word of Wisdom, the plurality of Gods, the pre-existence of man, our mother in heaven, baptism for the dead, etc?

          19. Why do you baptize for the dead when both Mosiah 3:25 and the Bible state that there is no chance of salvation after death?

          20. Since the word grace means a free gift that can’t be earned, why does the Book of Mormon state “for we know that it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do” (2 Nephi 25:23)?

          21. Does the LDS Church still regard the Pearl of Great Price as Holy Scripture even after several prominent Egyptologists proved it was an ancient funeral scroll?

          22. Why does the Book of Abraham, chapters 4 & 5, contradict Alma 11 in stating that there is more than one God?

          23. Why does Doctrine and Covenants 42:18 say there is no forgiveness for a murderer when 3 Nephi 30:2 says there is forgiveness for him?

          24. If the Adam-God doctrine isn’t true, how come Doctrine and Covenants 27:11 calls Adam the Ancient of Days which is clearly a title for God in Daniel chapter 7?

          25. Why does the Book of Mormon contain extensive, word-for-word quotes from the Bible if the LDS Church is correct in teaching that the Bible has been corrupted?

          26. Why do the Bible verses quoted in the Book of Mormon contain the italicized words from the King James Version that were added into the KJV text by the translators in the 16th and 17th centuries?

          27. If the Book of Mormon was engraved on gold plates thousands of years ago, why does it read in perfect 1611 King James Version English?

          30. If obeying the Word of Wisdom – which tells us to abstain from caffeine, alcohol and tobacco – is important for our exaltation, why did Jesus say that there is nothing that can enter a man to make him defiled (Mark 7:15)?

          31. If Jesus is the Jehovah of the Old Testament and Elohim is referred to as God in the Old Testament, can you explain Deuteronomy 6:4 to me: “Hear, O Israel: the LORD (Jehovah) our God (Elohim) is one LORD (Jehovah)?

          32. Why does the Mormon Church teach that we can be married in heaven when Jesus said in Matthew 22:30 that in the resurrection men neither marry, nor are they given in marriage?

          33. How can worthy Mormon males become Gods in the afterlife when God already said that before him no God was formed, nor will there be any Gods formed after him (Isaiah 43:10)?

          34. If God had a father who was a God, how come Isaiah 44:8 says that he doesn’t know him?

          38. Why does the LDS Church teach that Jesus paid for our sins in the garden of Gethsemane when 1 Peter 2:24 says it was on the cross?

          39. Why did Bruce McConkie write that a man may commit a sin so grievous that it will place him beyond the atoning blood of Christ (Mormon Doctrine, 1979, p.93) when the Bible says that the blood of Christ cleanses us from all sin (1 John 1:7)?

          40. Why does the LDS Church teach that man first existed as spirits in heaven when 1 Corinthians 15:46 says that the physical body comes before the spiritual?

          41. Since Jesus statement, “Be ye therefore perfect” (Matthew 5:48) is in the present tense, are you perfect right now? Do you expect to be perfect soon? According to Hebrews 10:14, how are we made perfect?

          43. Why does the LDS Church teach that Jesus and Lucifer are spirit brothers when both the first chapter of John and Colossians teach that Jesus is the Creator of all things, including Lucifer?

          44. Why do worthy Mormon males hold the Aaronic priesthood since Hebrews 7:11-12 clearly teaches that it was changed and superceded by something better?

          45. If your leaders are correct about the complete falling away of the true church on earth, was Jesus in error when he said that the gates of hell would not prevail against it (Matthew 16:18)?

          • Tom Jones says:

Good questions. I will attempt to answer some.

            1.Generation means era or dispensation.

2.Brigham never claimed to be a prophet. In fact, he said he wasn’t one.

5.22 When a prophet speaketh in the name of the Lord, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.

The prophet must be speaking in the name of the Lord. Not every causal statement made is prophecy.

            6. They haven’t been speaking in he name of the Lord much since Smith. Thus the contradictions.

8.Not taught or believed by Mormons. This is made up by anti-Mormons. Here is what the Book of Mormon says:

            2 Nephi 9:41

41 O then, my beloved brethren, come unto the Lord, the Holy One. Remember that his paths are righteous. Behold, the way for man is narrow, but it lieth in a straight course before him, and the keeper of the gate is the Holy One of Israel; and he employeth no servant there; and there is none other way save it be by the gate; for he cannot be deceived, for the Lord God is his name.

          • Tom Jones says:

            9. No. Can you show me physical proof of Christ?

            11. I am not sure Smith ever practiced polygamy He had no children other than by Emma. Brigham could have made up 132. Smith sealed people to him. A practice of sealing on earth and having power in heaven..

            12. public relations.

            13. God has body of flesh and bones but it is made of spiritual matter. It is immortal.

            14. Sarah was Abraham’s half sister.

            15. Nothing is perfect in this fallen world.

            16. Still the most correct book after the changes.

            17. The BOM contains the fullness of the Gospel of Christ. There is much, much more beyond that level. Endless progression.

            19.1 Corinthians 15:29

29 Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead?

            20. It requires faith. faith without works is dead. Why is there a hell, if it is a free gift? Something must be done that is exercise faith. The Book of Mormon says this:

25 For, for this end was the law given; wherefore the law hath become dead unto us, and we are made alive in Christ because of our faith; yet we keep the law because of the commandments.

26 And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins.

27 Wherefore, we speak concerning the law that our children may know the deadness of the law; and they, by knowing the deadness of the law, may look forward unto that life which is in Christ, and know for what end the law was given. And after the law is fulfilled in Christ, that they need not harden their hearts against him when the law ought to be done away.

          • Tom Jones says:

            21. yes. Scholars are often wrong.

22.1 Corinthians 8:5 For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)

6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

There are many Gods but only one who is over us.

            23. I say, best not take any chances and commit no murder. If you have faith in Christ, you keep his commandments.

            24. I would say, you reading Daniel incorrectly.

25.Because the Bile contains many great truths. Why toss that aside?

            26. Because it was easier for Joseph to copy that.

            27.Same as 26.

            28. Seems to me, he says, a man should marry.

1 Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman.

2 Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.

3 Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband.

            29. The word of wisdom advises to avoid strong drink but I don’t believe that it applies to wine or beer.

            30. It is not a requirement for salvation. It was given as a recommendation for good health.

31.They are of one mind and one purpose. You can be also, if you obtain the Holy Spirit.

32.Maybe you should read that again. It is referring to a man marrying his dead brothers wife. If you have studied the Bible, extensively, you should know there are inconsistencies.

            33. I think you misinterpret what it means to be a god. It doesn’t mean you are God but if you are immortal and now good from evil you are like God. What would you call it? Here is what Christ called it:

John 10: 33 The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.

34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?

            35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;

          • Tom Jones says:

            34. As far as we need be concerned, we have only one God over us.

35.Once you become a God, You are eternal/

36.He is not a man anymore.

37.I don’t believe they taught this. I have always been taught of the virgin Mary. Scripture trumps what men teach.

            38. I would say it was both.

            39. Rejecting Christ is that sin. Do you believe in hell?

40.We existed as disembodied spirits. The scripture describes how our current bodies will be resurrected to spiritual bodies like God’s body.

            41. We are perfected through the blood of Christ.

            42. Not everything Mormons say is perfect. How about your church do they ever say anything incorrect over the pulpit or are they perfect?

            43. I have never been taught that Jesus and Lucifer are brothers. Jesus is the son of God. So is Adam.

            Luke 3:38

38 Which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God.
Jesus created the physical worlds and the cosmos but not our spirits. If Christ is the son of God and Adam is the son of God are they not brothers? Are we not all sons and daughters of God? It is possible that Lucifer is son of God as well of the rest of us.

            45. Maybe read what Christ said to the Pharisees.

          • Tom Jones says:

            46. Most likely had a body and died before he came to this earth.

            47. I think it more likely that DNA experts will change their opinion. First of all, Mormons don’t believe that Indians are Jewish. They believe that some tribes are the descendants of Manasseh not Judah. Secondly Joseph Smith identified that remnant as being among some of the western tribes. It is not all Indians that are included. Current research has backed this up. Science has always found out they were not always right, at first.

            48. I would not take another wife.

49.No. Can you identify the true church throughout history?

            50.You sure about that?

Bottom line, Mormons are God’s covenant people. Do you have a covenant with God? They are modern day Israel and stewards of the house of Israel and much like ancient Israel they are not perfect.

        • bowtie says:

For Mormons It boils down to following their desires for “truth”. Truth by inspiration, rather than verification. Feel Good’ism. Mormonism teaches you get to be a God. Beck admitted he joined Mormonism for two reasons. One because it gave his daughter the ‘feel goods’, and two he had to in order to sleep with his wife (marry her). His words not mine. Funny the guy acts so interested in truth, but when it came to religion he went straight off desire.
Your 15 million member mark is a lie meant to make impressions. Realistically it’s about 5 million attending and paying members. When people join, their names stay as members for life even if they leave it…and they do….often. Mormon credibility is going downhill. There are plenty of diehards left that will never let go.

          • jaz says:

‘There are plenty of diehards left that will never let go’

That rings true of all religions/ denominations.. It ‘s Kind of cultic….

          • logoslady says:

Just because Glenn Beck is LDS and joined the church for his own reasons doesn’t mean that all people who join the church for the same reasons. He still can be interested in the truth even if he didn’t join the church for the best reasons. There are over 15 million members of the LDS Church, even if it includes those who are not active and still listed as members. One can get unlisted by asking permission. There are imperfect members but there is much to be admired and believed, even if it is not in the mainstream.

          • Cris Putnam says:

Mormonism is provably false. Joseph Smith deceived his followers. If you doubt that, I suggest study the background to the Book of Abraham which is considered sacred scripture in Mormonism. see: http://carm.org/book-abraham-papyri-and-joseph-smith

  8. Tom Jones says:

A mob of three hundred plus men storm a jail and take pot shots at four men locked in a cage and because one man fires back, with a pistol, this is a gun battle? It was a martyrdom because Smith had his chance to escape and did not take it. He turned himself in. He sealed his testimony with his blood. He knew, he went to his death. There was no escaping the mob, armed with rifles, with one pistol. Just because he went down swinging doesn’t mean it wasn’t a murder.

I guess Baptists don’t believe a man should have a right to fair trial and mob murder is justified as long as the person in question has controversial beliefs.

I dare say, you have do not have much understanding of Mormonism or you don’t know your Bible. The faith is strongly grounded in the Bible.

That is not to say, the faith is perfect or does not make mistakes in doctrine but I believe it to be the most closely aligned with scripture of any of the other denominations.

    • Darryl Fummerton from Canada says:

Lol as a former Jehovah’s witness and newly born again blood bought life servant of Christ I can emphatically state that Mormons are absolutely not Christians. Being in a psuedo Christian cult for 15 years has granted me some fantastic false teaching discernment and having studied Mormonism before being shown the light the simple denial of christ deity, a fundamental doctrine, excludes both Jw and Mormons as as Christians. Use your discernment and pray the lord opens all UNSAVED eyes and give yourself wholly to the loving lordship of the king of kings.

I am happy that you have found Christ. I believe salvation comes through the mercy and grace of Jesus Christ.

I am a little puzzled by your comment about Mormons denying the divinity of Christ. Here is a scripture from the Book of Mormon:

        Mosiah 16:15

15 Teach them that redemption cometh through Christ the Lord, who is the very Eternal Father. Amen.

Darryl. I too, was raised a JW, and am now a born again Christian. I now have a wonderful young man working for me who is a JW. I would like to witness to him, but…as you know, its not that easy. Can you think of anything that would help? Maybe a few things that stick out in your mind that helped you leave the cult? I would appreciate any information or thoughts you may have. My e-mail address is: engerdeborah@yahoo.com
Thanks, and God Bless to all of you

I have listened to Glenn Beck for years, but have to say that lately, there have been several things that have made me wonder. More on that later.

    • Mark says:

No doubt the mormon religion is good at what they do. Every time I drive by one of their strategically placed churches and notice the familiar design and eerily similar feeling I get when I drive by one. They are a finely oiled machine. There is no need to say sorry to their apologist either, they have their hands full. The whole religion relies on the credibility of one man, Joseph Smith. Anyone can look at this mans life before He supposedly stuck his head in a hat and received revelation from God and see that he had no credibility. Every other point made in these silly debates over weather mormonism is real are all moot. In life he was an opportunist and in death a disgrace with absolutely no credibility. He was convicted of being a “seer”, He stole the book of mormon from a book called Manuscript found and it has been rewritten and edited many many times. He had as many as 28 wives and yes, he was killed by a linch mob. People of that day could see this man for what he was. All of these events are recorded history and can be found by searching the local newspaper archives.
SHOW ME THE PLATES and Dig up the Hill Cumorah. Or show me a Nephite coin or one of those 600 BC steel swords. Ancient cities in the US and Mexico? Where?…… These points are all moot but I find them to be funny and silly at the same time. Anyone in this day and age who believes this “STUFF” is one sandwich short of a picnic. The real Word of God is historically and archaeologically authentic, the book of moroni is a fairytale.
Jesus said” behold I have foretold you all things through the prophets”. Or: Revelation 22-18 and 19: If you ad or take away from the words of this book (The real BIBLE) you will be given the plagues written therein. How do you write another “testament” of Jesus Christ after the fact? I guess God fergot somptin……?
Joseph Smith is a perfect example of the antichrists mentioned in the Epistle of John. These people actually claim to be Jesus.
To earnestly contend for the faith Jude 1-3 is what we do as believers in Jesus Christ.
But we will never argue with insanity.

      • Tom Jones says:

Rev 22:18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:

19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

This written before there was even such a thing as the Bible it is referring to the book of revelations. Check into how the Bible was compiled by a committee chosen by a murderous Roman Emperor and not a prophet. Many things were left out and many changes made over the years, thus the need for a prophet.

        John 4:44

44 For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no honour in his own country.

Smith received the same treatment as John the Baptist, Isaiah and others. He was ridiculed and murdered over false charges.

        • mark says:

          Tom:
You debate like all the other mormon apologist do.
I’ve read your posts and your logic is simply illogical.
Do you see any mention of chronology or dispensation of time in these verses in Rev 22?
No ….Your point is moot, just like Chapsters point is as well.
“Behold I have foretold you all things” Mark 13-23 If Jesus said it you should believe it.
Jesus did not mention Joseph Smith or any other prophet after John the Baptist.
To even compare JS to Isaiah or any of the other authentic prophets is……BS
No matter what you claim or say….You can not get past Mark 13-23. Or for that matter John 1-!.
The book of mormon is a fairytale and contradicts the real word of GOD.
If you think that Jesus forgot something or He didnt mean what He said in Mark 13-23 than you have been sent strong delusion.2nd Thess. 2-8 through12.
All the endless debates and twisting of Gods word are all useless and moot.
Jesus didnt need Joseph Smith nor did Isaiah or Ezekiel need Him. So… you ask why?
In the beginning was the word and the word was with God……….and the word was God and then in verse 14 and the word became flesh and walked among us. Do you see how silly your point is about how God needed a prophet to “finish’ His work? God is the word…….In essence JS claims to have second guessed God Himself………..

          .

      • Chapster says:

There is another scripture that should be considered here. Deuteronomy 4:2 states:

“Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it …”

Does this mean that everything past Deut. 4:2 is not scripture? Boy that would take out a lot of what I personally cherish. Most scholars will tell you that Revelations was written prior to I, II and III John. Do we throw those out because they were composed AFTER Revelations? That would be a tragedy for sure.

Why this sometimes intense desire to attack a faith that doesn’t attack anyone else? Why Bible-Bash? Are we so weak in our faith that to strengthen it we have to tear someone else’s faith down?

  9. Chapster says:

May I ask a Hebrew scholar to define one name used in the Old Testament? Eliab. Also, Please explain why the scriptures talk of Moses talking to God face-to-face or seeing his backside! Quite often we read that the arm of the Lord is stretched out still to those who are rebellious. We speak even today about the hand of the Lord in our lives. And one of my favorites, how come most christians and jews are so adamant in there being an ethereal, one god, with the Christians talking about the nicene creed, yet the word “Elohim” literally means “gods”. This from people who otherwise insist on infallibility of scripture yet work very hard to explain away the obvious. The Savior had no deception in Him, yet he prayed to “My father and your father” and said when He left, the Holy Ghost would come. Plato thought the body was vulgar and that crept into christianity by the 4th century. I happen to agree with Cris Putnam that all truth can be consistent and agree and wish he would stay true to that mission, instead of attacking another faith.

  10. Tom Jones says:

The Bible is full of references about multiple gods. Here is one:

1 Corinthians: 5 For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)

6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

There gods many and lords many but we are subjected to only one God and we will always be subjected to him.

  11. Preston says:

Liberty University holds the theological line better than any university in the country! Liberty students have the ability and education to hear speakers with a variety of theological and public policy views and discern what is truth and what is error. Glenn is sincerely mistaken with his theology, as evidenced by his membership in the Mormon Church. However, in the public square, on issues of public policy, I will stand shoulder to shoulder with Glenn. When times get really tough and theologically correct Christians are subject to real persecution, I have no doubt that Glenn will be there to defend the Christians. We should be careful not to shoot, but to pray, for those who will stand for our rights as Christians. As for the Liberty students, they are well educated and able to discern truth for themselves. God bless Liberty and God bless and save Glenn Beck!!

  12. Rob says:

I am a Mormon. We believe what Christ taught by keeping His commandments, living the gospel according to the New Testament. How can you say we are not followerers of the same Son of God? Your spirit of contention is not of God or of His Holy Spirit. Peace be unto you and let us not contend one with another but unite in a cause of righteousness.

  13. River Brown says:

I guess big government won this little battle. They have us right where they want us; fighting among ourselves over which church is true. Instead of arguing who believes in the true God of all things, we should be standing shoulder-to-shoulder facing off against those who wish to do us harm. As for me, I stand by my oath I swore in Boy Scouts. I will do my duty to God and my country. Bless all of you who read this, and bless this wonderful creation of God’s.

  14. FEMA Region IV says:

Wow! I have never seen such BS from “quote” Christians! This so called Author says Islam is closer to Christianity? WTF! The writer obviously doesn’t know jack about Mormonism. What did Christ say about not being listened to in a home? Something about shaking the dust from your shoes and moving on? You freakin pieces of crap. I am the Bearer of Christ in Name and none of you have anything to suggest you belong to the body. I now shall shake the dust from my shoes as it is pointless to comment further.

    • Cris Putnam says:

Mormonism is polytheistic (millions of gods on different planets) but Islam is monotheistic (one god Allah). Christianity is also monotheistic (one God in three persons). Thus, Islam is much closer to Christian theology than mormonism. Mormonism is a non-Christian cult with a false christ (the spirit brother of Lucifer according to Joe Smith).

      • Deirdre says:

        Dear Mr. Putman,

Islam is not monotheistic. At its very roots is goddess worship. And false Christianity (ie: Roman Catholicism) is also rooted in goddess worship. See http://www.al-qiyamah.org/pdf_files/islam_and_goddess_worship_(notendur).pdf

Acts 19:35 And when the townclerk had appeased the people, he said, Ye men of Ephesus, what man is there that knoweth not how that the city of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddess Diana, and of the image which fell down from Jupiter?

What is that black stone thingy they worship and kiss? Sorry it looks like a female genitalia. See this very informative and short video.

Why do you think the Bible says throughout to “come out of HER my people”????

I agree; Monotheistic does not necessarily imply that it is the one True God of heaven. That may be so in concept that Judaism Catholicism and Mohamedism is monotheistic, But the reality is that they are all antichrist in denial of the Father and the Son.

Hear o Israel the Lord our God the Lord is one. If you are serious about what this actually means you need to go to the Hebrew Sh’ma Yis’ ra’eil Adonai Eloheinu Adonai echad meaning hear Israel Adonai=Masters Eloheinu=Gods your Adonai=Masters are one echad is used in another place in the bible a man will leave his father and mother and join with his wife and the 2 shall be one Father Son and the Holy Spirit are one in truth one in love one in purpose amen

  16. Mrs M says:

Julie Bucker stated: We can be sealed to our spouses and children for time and all eternity. We can have eternal families.

That is not true according to Jesus.
Mar 12:23 In the resurrection therefore, when they shall rise, whose wife shall she be of them? for the seven had her to wife.
Mar 12:24 And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?
Mar 12:25 For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven.

Please research Joseph Smith’s hypocephalus. He is mixing the mystery religions into a pseudo-
    christian religion.
“Joseph Smith explained that the remaining figures contained writings that cannot be
revealed to the world. Stressing the secrecy of these things is entirely
in harmony with Egyptian religious documents such as the hypocephalus
and the 162nd chapter of the Book of the Dead. For example, we read in the 162nd chapter of the
Book of the Dead, “This is a great and secretbook. Do not allow anyone’s eyes to see it!” Joseph
also says line 8 “is to be had in the Holy Temple of God.” Line 8 reads, “Grant that the soul of the Osiris,
Shishaq, may live (eternally).” Since the designated purpose of the hypocephalus
was to make the deceased divine, it is not
unreasonable to see here a reference to the sacred ordinances performed in our Latter-day
    temples.”
    https://home.comcast.net/~michael.rhodes/JosephSmithHypocephalus.pdf

“The rim of the JS Hypo translates as I am Djabty in the House of the Ben Ben in Heliopolis, so exalted and glorious. [I am] a copulating bull without equal. [I am] that Mighty God in the House of the BenBen in Heliopolis… that Mighty God…May the Osiris Shishaq live forever, with that Mighty God in Heliopolis”

JS is aligned with JayZ, Beyonce, and their ilk promoting a false religion where you too can become a god.

  17. Bill says:

Dear Chris I am blown away with your comparison with Islam and Christianity 2 things that are different are,our Gods, allah is the Babylonian moon god of war. Yahweh is the Great I Am. Second Christianity believes that God so loved the world He sent His only begotten Son that whoever believes on Him will have everlasting life. The Koran makes it clear their god has no son.

  18. Paula says:

This is not an isolated error of Liberty’s administration. Theological Liberalism has crept in the to such an extent that some of their textbooks deny the Trinity, deny the Deity of Christ, and deny the historicity of the Bible. When I documented these errors, ry to help them, tthe school just quietly closed my account and I was no longer enrolled. Liberty has not repented of these false teachings. They are training our future pastors. I love Baptists, so have no issue with Liberty’s denomination. I DO have an issue that they do not FOLLOW the basic doctrines of Scriptural Christianity. Cris Putnam is correct that Mormonism is not another denomination, but is a non-Christian and anti-Christian religion. When will the students and faculty and administration stand for Jesus Christ, for what is Biblical Truth, and DO what is right?

    • louthesaint says:

They are in the grip of the Strong delusion as prophesied by Apostle paul… 2Thes2:11

Any genuine believers among them will separate themselves by coming Out.

  19. Chapster says:

Bill, there is a misunderstanding about Islam, though I refuse to defend it. Arab christians (yes there are those) pray to Allah as that is the generic name of “God”. Islamists, it is true, did believe in a moon god, before Mohammed, but he tried to combine Judaism, Christianity, and the local deity into one. He’s not the only one to attempt to combine more than one religion. Hats off to him for civilizing a brutal people, at least for a time. They aren’t civil now.

I like River Brown’s comments. We are so focused on division, when our common enemy is openly trying to destroy us, why attack anyone? Why not unite in the good we collectively can do if we just try?

As to people staying in the LDS faith against their will, they can have their names taken off the rolls of the church any time. Sadly, I helped a man do just that. As to activity, true there are inactives, but aren’t there inactives in other faiths? I doubt the LDS are unique there.
